Royals explores the shifting dynamics of perception—both visual and psychological—through layered paint and vinyl arranged in a raised, tactile composition. Playing with the ideas of pushing and pulling, the piece invites viewers to question what forces are at work: What are we drawn toward? What are we resisting? Central to the work is an inquiry into the nature of reward—how it is taught, assigned, and perceived, often through the lens of monetary value. This concept is embedded in the palette and the title itself, referencing the opulence, hierarchy, and abstraction associated with royalty and wealth. With its sculptural surface and optical tension, Royals blurs the boundary between surface and symbol, asking us to reconsider the cost—and the shape—of desire.
